Examples of Better Practice
The examples have been selected for their ability to maximise the opportunities provided by new technologies. Examples that do not appear to comply with Minimum Web Site Standards have not been selected. Where possible the examples are followed by links to related resources that may be of use to agencies interested in implementing a similar service in their organisation. The examples showcase what is possible, and to stimulate thought and discussion on what is best or better practice in each category.
The examples are provided in categories which have been chosen for their relevance to current concerns and advances in online activities. It is expected that the categories and individual examples will be reviewed and changed over time. Examples fall into the following categories:
- Accessibility: Making resources accessible to those with disabilities or with technological constraints, and the provision of resources to facilitate access to the Internet.
- AGLS Metadata: Making it easier for services delivered by Australian Government agencies to be found by tagging resources with high quality metadata.
- Citizen engagement: Using online services to provide more opportunities for citizens to engage with government.
- Feedback and evaluation: Mechanisms to help improve service delivery.
- Forms: Providing online, interactive forms online.
- Integrated services: Services that involve partnerships between government agencies, or the private sector.
- Multimedia services: The provision of services using video or audio etc.
- Navigation: Making it easy for users to find their way around web sites.
- Policy consultation: Engaging citizens in government policy decision making.
- Privacy: Ensuring that the privacy of citizens is preserved.
- Recruitment: Employee recruitment, from advertising to testing and interviewing.
- Sales: The provision of goods for purchase online.
