Employee recruitment, from advertising to testing and interviewing

Overview

An important priority in the development of government online services is the full exploitation of the opportunities that the Internet provides, not only for clients and stakeholders of government agencies, but also for the agency.

Online recruitment includes using the Internet to facilitate the hiring of new staff. This may result in a number of efficiencies for the organisation as well as for potential employees. This may involve the whole recruitment process, from advertising to testing and interviewing online.

Examples of Better Practice

Australian Jobsearch (AJS) provides a new way for job seekers to search for a job. Its aim is to give all job seekers the best possible access to the biggest choice of jobs, and the national vacancy database contains:

  • Every job listed with every Job Network Service around the country;
  • Jobs advertised in some national newspapers;
  • Jobs listed in the Australian Government Public Service gazette;
  • Jobs lodged directly by employers using the advertise a job service; and
  • Jobs from RCSA (Recruitment and Consulting Services Association).
