E-Government 2004

As the agenda for e-government moves from the original intent of placing all appropriate services online to a more comprehensive target of improving government service delivery and policy outcomes, a range of issues come to the fore. Some of these are encapsulated in a research project undertaken by AGIMO in 2004 and published in the Future Challenges for E-government book, as outlined below. The Business e-Volution of Government Conference held by AGIMO in 2004 also considered similar issues.

The need for greater collaboration across government and between government and other sectors - as outlined in the Connecting Government report - places a new emphasis on issues noted in the Australian Government e-government strategy, Better Services, Better Government. These include identity management, information and communication technology (ICT) investment and improved connectivity.
