What is the standard, and which agency issued the standard?
- Confirmation that under the new e-government strategy, Better Services, Better Government, the requirement for agencies to tag records using AGLS Metadata remains.
- AGLS Metadata standard issued in December 2002 as an Australian Standard.

Content of Metadata records
- Publisher element is no longer a mandatory metadata element for the Australian Standard. Only required for descriptions of information resources - not for resources that are transactional services.
- Agencies are also required to use description and type for all resources.
- Audience, language and coverage are conditional: they may be mandatory under certain conditions.
- Associated coding changes in example of AGLS metadata record.

What is the standard and which agency issued the standard?
- Clarification of the role of HREOC.
Testing websites for accessibility
- Agencies to test websites with users with disabilities as well as using tools to test for accessibility
Priority 1 / Level of compliance
- HROC considers that compliance with the W3C WCAG 1.0 Guidelines to the Single-A level is a minimum rather than desirable outcome. May still be inaccessible to some users.
FAQs
- Not desirable to convert a PDF file to HTML. Preferable to use original file. Preferred format HTML followed by Word / RFT and text. If in HTML should also be provided as a single for download.
- For graphs and maps, can use 'longdesc' tag or have content produced in accessible format by external contractors. Agencies need to develop strategies for the provision of this information and provide contact details.
- PDF forms still inaccessible for most users.
