Information forum
About this Forum
The information contained in the presentations given at this e-government event was correct at the time of the event. You may need to check with the relevant agency as to whether the information is still current.
Like all governments, the ACT Government runs on access to documents and records. Who has them, wants them, needs them or shouldn't, how easily they can be found, and moved around and, importantly, the damage to business if any of this is too slow or breaks down. Like many agencies, the ACT Government is tackling electronic document management and record keeping, but with a different approach.
This presentation described how the ACT Government is approaching electronic document management and record keeping from the perspective of better business. It explained the conceptual underpinning of the project. This approach is being piloted in the ACT Planning and Land Authority, an agency of some 330 staff with responsibility for land planning, development and building administration and related functions, and in the Registrar General's Office.
In opting for a full document management-record keeping implementation, there have been massive impacts on the day-to-day operations of the pilot agency. Millions of records and incoming papers are scanned and delivered electronically, the traditional network drive is replaced, relationships with clients have changed, new services are now possible, records are looked after, and more.
This information session covered:
- Conceptualisation of electronic document management project;
- Improved organisational outcomes; and
- Impact on daily workings of the office.
