Enabling Government, Engaging Communities: An Online Perspective
Event Location and Timing
Brisbane 17-18 November 2004
About this Event
Information and communication technologies continue to provide new opportunities for government to transform policies, programs and services. In meeting the challenges of the 21st century, the success of government is increasingly reliant on the tailoring of its business to the needs of customers, citizens and community.
How does government adapt to an environment where stakeholders are increasingly informed about the options facing them? What is the role of information and communication technologies in factoring citizen and community perspectives into government decision-making? Correspondingly, what is government's role in building the type of networks, or community bases, from which stronger engagement with individual citizens can be harnessed?
The Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO), in partnership with the Queensland Government and Cisco Systems, presents Enabling Government, Engaging Communities: An Online Perspective, a discussion forum. This event will:
- raise awareness of online engagement issues within government
- analyse the imperatives and role for government in engaging citizens further
- provide a springboard from which to achieve greater coordination and consistency between government approaches in ICT-enabled citizen and community engagement
- examine new and ICT-enabled ways by which public sector decisions can be constructively informed by citizens and community.
This discussion forum was open by invitation to the government, community and academic sectors across Australia and from Asia-Pacific countries.
