Updates

Gatekeeper Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Framework

On 29 September 2006, the Department of Finance and Deregulation (Finance), Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) released the Gatekeeper PKI Framework. The Framework is aimed at making the application of PKI less complex and more affordable for businesses and government agencies.

The Gatekeeper PKI Framework has been developed through a comprehensive consultation process involving all Gatekeeper Accredited Service Providers, Commonwealth, state and territory governments.

Finance, AGIMO will meet with each Accredited Service Provider to discuss and agree timeframes for document preparation and evaluation with the objective of having all service providers accredited under the Framework by June 2008. During the transition period Service Providers can continue to issue digital certificates under their existing Approved Documents which will continue to be accepted by relying agencies during their normal lifecycle and upon expiry will be replaced with certificates of the equivalent type as specified in the Framework.
